Grapple Trucks

A Grapple Truck is a self loading dump truck (most are dumps) that can be as small as a 1 ton with a 6 yard bed or as big as a multi-axle 50 cubic yard truck. There are various configurations so the more you know the easier it will be to make a good decision on the right truck.

Here are some things you need to consider to “Maximize” your purchase:

Think about what you want to do with the truck. Are you looking to handle a lot of brush and a few logs OR a lot of logs and some brush. A “Brush” truck will have a lighter *GVW, will be cheaper to buy initially, cheaper to tag and insure.  The down side is it will require large logs to have to be cut into smaller pieces to be loaded on your truck and hauled legally. A “Log” truck” will be able to load 12’ to 20’ logs and whatever may accompany them. Consequently the larger truck will have a higher initial cost and a higher cost of operation. The tag and insurance will cost more, the driver will cost more, and it will burn more fuel. Define your intention for the grapple truck. In some instances, for the same cost you can purchase and operate 2 “Brush” trucks or 1 “Log” truck.

Another consideration for you:  a truck tagged at 25,999 lb GVW does not require a Driver with a CDL License. We can show you how to build a truck that can haul 9,500 lbs legally and not require a CDL.

* GVW = Gross Vehicle Weight. This is what your entire truck will weigh, LOADED.
